How long can dental post & crown last?

I'm a little confused by your question. Is the dentist saying that there is a cavity in this tooth?If nothing is 'wrong' with it, I'd leave it alone! If something needs to be done due to a cavity, I agree with the prior answer in that a composite filling with a fiber-post would suffice to help strengthen the tooth. If the veneer is broken, or removed during the process; a crown would then be in order.Root canals, posts, crowns, etc. can last a very long time when taken care of properly. A post does increase the chance of fracture, but you can lessen those odds by watching how you eat (no gnawing on bones) and if you have any signs of grinding (bruxism) getting a night guard would help.
