Asymmetrical mouth and smile. Is there anything that can be done for this? (Photo)

Question

I have an asymmetrical mouth and smile that has caused me to feel self conscious all my life. I feel self conscious often while talking and especially when laughing, I find myself covering my mouth with my hand to limit showing my smile. When I smile the right side is more "gummy" than the other. In addition to this, it is very bothersome to me that simply sitting expressionless whether it be open or closed mouth, there is an asymmetrical appearance. Is there anything that can be done for this?

Hi,
From the posted pictures, your teeth are in good alignment. The asymmetry that you observe is from the unevenly placed gum tissue. A minor laser assisted procedure called gingivoplasty can can recontour your gums to give a perfect smile.

Hi:First of all you have very nice teeth.  Secondly, the asymmetry comes form the amount of gums showing and the teeth being further in on the right side as compared to the left.  Gum recountoring and two veneers on the premolars teeth can build out the smile so that right and left is matching better.  Best,Dr. Maddahi
