Stopped nursing/tretinon cream acne: medication for 3 weeks now and am experiencing the worst acne I have ever had.

Question

I recently stopped nursing after 11 months and suffered the whole time with skin issues. I started back on the combi birth control Loreyna (generic for Yaz) and she prescribed spironolactone/dapsone cream for AM & Tretioin for PM. I called and they said this outbreak is normal. She prescribed Doxyclone as well. How long before things get better? Should I stop and let my hormones balance out first? My skin was bad before but this is much worse. Thanks.

Thank you for your question. It is common to have breakouts when starting any acne treatment, and in my experience, breakouts may last weeks to months before acne improves and clears. If acne breakouts are severe, there are additional treatments that can help, so I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist regarding your acne and treatment options that best suit your needs.
