Does SmartLipo Cause Any Scarring?

All surgery causes scarring and some of this can be intentional and to your advantage. Another term for scarring can be considered fibrosis. In mild conditions of neck laxity, we use liposuction to promote a controlled fibrosis of the skin to the underlying muscle to help achieve an improved neck profile. In some instances, this is not the preferred method of treatment
Having said this, I understand what you mean by scarring and I assume it to mean: undesireable scarring.
The smart lipo uses a laser to acccomplish destruction of fat cells. If held to close to the undersurface of the skin, undesireable scarring can result. This is why you should seek the services of an experienced surgeon.

It's important to note that the SmartLipo procedure itself may be less of a factor as to whether you scar rather than the technique of the surgeon, the type of incisions that are placed, and their location.If your surgeon uses the smallest possible cannula and places them in inconspicuous areas or places less likely to scar, your results will be much better than if an inexperienced surgeon makes incisions without paying attention to these factors.  A good surgeon will also obtain an excellent history from you to determine the degree to which you are prone to scarring and will use this information to minimize this risk.When you consult with a surgeon, ask to see as many before/after photos as possible, in patients of all types, so that you can assess their results.  Hope that helps.

SmartLipo, like any surgical procedure, can cause some scarring. There can be some scars at the incision site. If you are targeting small fat bulge areas, CoolSculpting could be a non-surgical alternative to SmartLipo. The advantage with this procedure is there are no incisions.  However, it is restricted to the areas of the flanks and abdomen. While it is a non-invasive affordable procedure, it removes 20% of the fat deposits with each treatment whereas SmartLipo can remove a larger amount of fat, but is likely to cause scarring.

In order for the Smart Lipo procedure to happen we do have to make tiny incisions to the area to allow the cannula to get to the areas of concern. These incision sites are approx 1.5 mm in size, no stitches needed because the sites are so small. As you heal, the incision site may be a little darker but that’s normal. Any injury to the skin tends to make the area a little darker but will return to your natural color.

There must be one or more incision points that are undertaken by the physician in order to perform Smart Lipo. There will be a very, very small scar at each of those incision points. The laser fiber is only 1/8” in size, which is comparable in size to the diameter of a pencil eraser. In general, the actual procedure of laser liposuction will not produce scarring; however, there is always a small incidence of scarring from any laser procedure no matter who performs it.
