My smile has made me self conscious all my life. I am a 27 year old student who is afraid to talk to people directly due to me feeling as if they're staring at my teeth. I went to several dentists to inquire about Invisalign. Some said I was a good candidate and some said traditional braces were a more suitable option due to my overbite. Is there a way venners can help mask the overbite?
Answer: Veneers Vs. Invisalign
Veneers are not going mask an overbite. It is great that you are actively seeking opinions to treat your case... I think you will be very happy once your teeth start to move. Orthodontics first is definitely the way to go. An overbite can continue to get worse and eventually lead to possibly loosing some teeth. You may want to do veneers still once the teeth are aligned. That would only be to change the shape and color of your teeth if desired. I think you can treat the overbite with Invisalign but I would work with an orthodontic specialist that is prepared to use wire braces if your teeth do not respond to the invisalign movements. This can happen in rare cases. Good luck!

Answer: Invisalign or Porcelain Veneers?
At twenty seven, you have past the most optimal time for doing orthodontics. Adult orthodontics proceeds slower, has a high incidence of complications (root resorption, bone loss, gum problems) and is more uncomfortable than orthodontics in children. Also, your orthodontist will tell you that if you want your teeth to remain straight you may have to wear a retainer the rest of your life.
The question I would like to ask you is whether it is really the overbite that is bothering you, or the general appearance of your teeth. A slight overbite in women can oftentimes make the patient look younger and more sexy (look at all the women's magazines when you check out at the supermarket, don't all the cover models seem to have overbites?).
Porcelain veneers will not correct an overbite, but they can correct teeth that are discolored, chipped, rotated, spaced, crooked, or otherwise unsightly. Oftentimes we have situations where we correct crooked teeth with veneers in two weeks, and that is preferable to many patients instead of 12-30 months of braces or invisalign.

Answer: Skip Invisalign & Go For Veneers?
It's impossible to answer this question without seeing X-rays and photos, at the very least.

Answer: Skipping Invisalign and braces and going straight to Veneers
Without seeing your case, X-Rays, Photo's diagnostic models, its not really possible to give you any advice on what to do or not do.
In many cases of misaligned teeth, where someone is seeking a Smile Makeover, orthodontics in the form of traditional braces or clear brace options (Invisalign, Clearline etc) are a great first step. Aligning the teeth means that Veneer preparation can be kept more conservative.
Generally Orthodontics can align teeth and correct bites but will not change the shape or colour of the teeth. Therefore if all you are looking for is alignment then Orthodontics are the way to go.
If your teeth are not only misaligned but also an undesired shape or colour then Orthodontics would need to be combined with veneers to get the desired smile. Again, this is case dependant on the condition of your existing teeth.
Veneers alone, with no orthodontics, is also an option but one that may have some side affects associated with it. If teeth are severely out of line, rotated, or tilted, the amount of tooth removal required, to allow for Veneers, may result in loss of nerve vitality. this means root canals may be needed on some teeth. This is a case by case situation of course, and can't be determined without the help of Photos' X-Rays and Models.
As far as masking an overbite. It is possible to alter the look of an overbite with Veneers but that depends on the existing dental condition. Length of the teeth, position relative to your lips, etc. Again, different for everyone and determined with the help of the diagnostic aids listed above.
Talk to a dentist who has experience in cosmetic dentistry and I'm sure they will be able to advise you on both options , Ortho and Veneers, and what would work best for your case.
Would love to see some pictures to get a better idea of what you are dealing with.
