Why does my skin look darker after microneedling? How long before my skin colour goes back to normal? (photos)

After microneedling, the skin can turn brown in darker skin types, feel like sand paper and then the brown, rough skin flakes off. It may take a week or two for the abdomen to heal. Aggressive microneedling will cause redness and inflammation which can result in hyperpigmentation in certain skin types. Moisturizing is important as well as being gentle with the skin. Once everything has healed and any pigmentation remains, a glycolic acid serum used sparingly may help. If still concerned, consult a cosmetic dermatologist and reconsider further self treatments.
