"Acne" outbreak after Infini RF Microneedling. Should I be worried and will it subside? (Photo)

Question

I'm a 26 year old male this year. I've not had acne breakout for several years already. I recently went for Infini RF Microneedling for acne scars, and developed some little red bumps, white small zits and even "pimples" on my face on the 2nd day of recovery. Is this normal? The doctor did gave me TDF recovery cream and Fobancort cream. Should I do anything to ensure it doesn't spread, and how do I stop these "pimples" from appearing after these acne scars treatments? Thank you.

I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation and after care. We use a specific protocol of exfoliation, hydration, and moisturizing along with protection after laser treatments. PDT therapy can calm any inflammation. I always combine lasers with microneedling/prp to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

It isn't uncommon for acne prone patients to break out after Infini because it is a stimulating procedure. I would treat with topical and oral antibiotics and possibly retin A.

It is quite common to have tiny bumps/breakouts for a few days after an Infini treatment.  We generally do not treat them as they go away on their own without intervention.  If it were to become more significant, topical antibiotics (like clindamycin) can be used, although we usually try to avoid this as the skin is sensitive for about a week after the treatment.  Make sure your provider is aware of the bumps so that they can intervene if it does not go away after a few days.  One week after an Infini treatment, we have clients restart their usual skin care regimen (like glycolic acid and retinol) which continues to turn over the skin quickly and accelerates the overall results. Outbreaks can happen with occlusion, however it is best practice to obtain a viral and bacterial swab. Your dermatologist or plastics can review you and address your concerns. Any potential complications should ideally be seen by the provider of the service, as we are limited with our clinical examinations, history and most importantly investigations.
