Is it normal to experience gum irritation with slight bleeding between teeth? (Photo)

Question

I am on tray 14 and have never experienced this before. There is irritation in the space between 2 teeth and when I remove the tray, it bleeds slightly. I am not sure if this tray is defective or if this is normal. I can not get in touch with my orthodontist until after the holidays and I don't want to continue to wear it if it is causing damage.

Dear ginap88,Thank you for postin gyour question on Real Self.  I will do my best to address your concerns with the information provided.There are a few reasons why you have irritation between your teeth.  One is there may be a slight error in the fabrication of the aligner.  You can try filing the area on the aligner with a nail file.  Another cause for irritation is food impaction.  Thoroughly clean the area for a few days and it should alleviate the irritation.  If neither of these solve the problem, obviously scheduling an appointment with your doctor would be the next step.I hope that this helps and good luck!Best,Dr. Jenn
