How often (always, 75,50, or 25%) of the time does a patient who goes through bulbous tip fix during rhinoplasty need steroid injections after op to help with swelling. How many of these are needed and over what duration. Please share common schedules for such injections. Considering OOT surgeons and want to know what the post op may look like

Answer: Steroid injections after rhinoplasty for thick bulbous tips: Steroid injections after rhinoplasty for thick bulbous tips: patients with bulbous tips and thick skin are the most likely to require steroid injections in the postoperative period. I can’t put an exact number on it but I would estimate that approximately 3/4 of such patients would benefit from some amount of steroid injection. Surgeons very dramatically about the schedule, when they begin injecting, The dose given with each injection and how many injections. I personally believe in waiting 3 to 4 months before beginning steroid injections to allow for a sufficient amount of healing. It also takes a few months for scar tissue to build up to peak, and this is one of the things that is treated with the steroid injection. I have also found that injecting steroid prior to two months risks the injection diffusing beyond the immediate area of the intended injection. I wait two months between injections since the final affect of the injection may not be present until this time. How many injections a patient may get depends on how thick their skin is, how much scar tissue has built up, and how much the surgeon injects with each treatment. Since injecting too much may cause a dent, I dilute my steroid to a rather weak dose, and prefer to give a series of 2, 3,or four injections spaced two months apart, than one or two larger dose treatments to avoid overcorrection. Surgeons will vary dramatically on all these choices.
