Where is my buccal fat? Could I benefit from reduction? (Photos)

I am gettng a rhinoplasty and my surgeon said i could Benefit from buccal fat reduction. I did question him on this and he says he only recommends it to maybe 1 in 10 patients. Is buccal fat what makes the sides of my mouth turn down/cause squareness along jawline? Can someone point it out in my pictures?

The buccal fat pad sits in the lower cheek, between the cheekbone and jawline, and primarily contributes to fullness in that area. It typically does not cause the corners of the mouth to turn downward — that concern is more often related to muscle activity, skin laxity, or volume changes elsewhere. In carefully selected patients, buccal fat reduction can help refine the transition from the cheeks to the jawline, but it generally produces subtle contouring rather than a dramatic change.

Because the results are nuanced and permanent, a conservative approach is important to avoid a hollowed look over time. If you’re unsure, it’s completely appropriate to have your surgeon review your photos with you and clearly explain why you may benefit, along with a detailed discussion of the risks, benefits, and alternatives before proceeding.
