Can I have any sun exposure on area treated with IPL hair removal?

I'm in the process of getting IPL hair removal on my bikini area. I'm wondering if it's ok to go to the beach (with a bikini) since part of the bikini area of the skin might be exposed to the suns rays. Also, how would the same situation relate to a tanning bed? (Just for curiosity)

Hi sarasarajevo2017. I would recommend avoiding sun exposure and tanning for a period of 3-4 weeks after an IPL treatment. This is because your skin is more susceptible to sun damage after treatment. I would also recommend avoiding sun exposure before the procedure due to the increased risk of complications during treatment. It’s a good idea to discuss any sun exposure concerns you may have with your provider, so you can both plan accordingly. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question.  I would strongly recommend against tanning or any excessive sun exposure for at least 2-4 weeks before and after IPL.  This is because performing IPL on skin after tanning or recent sun exposure increases your risk of burning and scarring during your IPL treatment, while sun exposure afterwards increases your risk of hyperpigmentation and skin discoloration in the treated areas.
I would also strongly advise you against using tanning beds in general - the UV exposure not only will cause premature aging of your skin (fine lines, wrinkles, skin discoloration), but will also increase your risk of developing skin cancer later on.  I hope this helps.
