If Invisalign is not tracking do I need braces?

Question

I currently have Invisalign and I went in for a check up and my orthodontist said my bottom teeth weren't tracking properly with my top teeth. So then he said he had to put metal braces on them because Invisalign isn't working. They are not crowding and don't need rotating or anything serious so is this common? Or should we be doing another remold for new trays to better track my bottom teeth? I'm very unhappy with metal braces.

While Invisalign is a great tool, it doesn't always work.  Remaking impressions doesn't always make a difference, so a faster and more predictable method (brackets) is normally the way to go when teeth don't track the way Invisalign predicted they would.

Only your orthodontist will know the answer to your question.  Orthodontists are mostly trained utilizing wire and bracket orthodontics and we all have to acquire additional education in aligner tooth movement.Some orthodontist are more comfortable with wire and brackets and do not offer aligner options, some utilize aligners most all of the time and some offer Invisalign because of public demand.  Dentists who offer only aligners/Invisalign have 100% investment in making it work as it is the only tool we may will utilize to guide teeth.  Some malocculions I refer to orthodontist because I feel it will offer the best result for the patient or if I believe the patient may not wear the aligners faithfully, it is about the end result.For teeth not tracking, the use of Propel can help with any orthodontic movements, mid-course corrections can help and yes, sometimes wire and brackets can help.  If the orthodontist has inexpensive wire and brackets at their disposal, they may feel it is a quicker and more effective tool for your present situation.  I would ask if there were any other options and proceed with a plan as you employed that orthodontist to get you as close to your dental goals as possibly, we all vary in our methodology but the result is the goal!
