Can a gap between my front teeth be created? (Photo)

Ironic, just this past week I had a patient of mine ask if she could have a gap created between her two upper front teeth. I have been practicing general, cosmetic and orthodontic dentistry for over 20 years and I had never been asked that question before. I have had many patients ask me to close an existing gap (called a "diastema") but never had I been asked to create a diastema. When I asked her why she wanted a gap between her teeth she said, "Because it looks cute!" Who am I to argue with that kind of logic? Lauren Hutton made a career partly with her "cute" diastema. It was easy to create a cute diastema in my patient and should be no problem creating yours using Invisalign. All you will need to do is specify exactly how wide you want your diastema to be.Good luck! 

Yes! If you are a good candidate for Invisalign, a customized gap can be incorporated into your treatment plan and created for you. 

I would say yes, that it is possible to create a gap if you like, but it depends upon the relative sizes of your teeth and how they fit together.  Further, although you might like to  have a gap, the teeth will be more stable against future relapse if they are together.
