I have seen posts with sane questions from other women and doctors giving different answers. I have seen people claim it can't be resolved with exercise but can just resolve itself which I don't understand. I don't know what it is but this strange dent above my belly appeared in matter of weeks while I was losing 7 lbs... not a lot.

Pain may not be from diastasis recti, as it would be rare for a 4" diastasis and in a male. However, hernias can occur within a diastasis recti. Have you been evaluated for a hernia, which can be causing the pain? Especially from a cough, getting up, and lifting.
