Is IPL for hair removal with at home devices safe to use on areas with tattoos?

I recently purchased an at-home laser hair removal device after one of my coworkers had amazing results with the same device for hair removal on the legs. I realized after purchasing the device that I have tattoos on my legs that I did not consider when purchasing the device. To be clear, my intention is only hair removal. I do NOT want to remove my tattoos. Will this be safe to use on my legs where I have tattoos? Can I use the device on my legs but just avoid my tattoos?
