If I get my braces fixed at one place and go to college, will another orthodontist tighten them for me?

Dear LovelyLex,Thank you for posting your question on Real Self. I will do my best to answer your question with the information given. i am sorry to hear that your braces are causing you discomfort. You have a few different solutions. The first one is that you somehow continue to see your orthodontist on a regular basis. I would address this with he/she and see if there is a way that you could come every 8 weeks on a weekend or a holiday (such as Columbus Day, Election Day etc) to adjust your braces.  This would keep you moving forward. Another option is that you transfer your case to an orthodontist near where you go to school. The problem is adjustments during the summer time, but if your school isn't far, you could make one or two trips to stay on schedule. A third option is that you remove your braces until you can make regularly scheduled appointed. Last, if you are a candidate, you can suggest changing your treatment over to Invisalign which would allow you to continue treatment without loss of time. If your current orthodontist isn't helpful in finding a solution, I definitely recommend a second opinion from another orthodontist.
