I have a retainer and a bone graft, do I really need a dental implant?

I got my tooth extracted (i believe tooth #31) and had a bone graft done, and currently I'm waiting to have my implant put in. However, I recently got a essix retainer, that also fits around my missing tooth. If my teeth won't be moving because of the retainer, and I have a bone graft possibly preventing bone deterioration, then do I really need to spend the money to get an implant? Is it possible to still have jawbone atrophy? I'm 27, and dont want to look older than I am...
