Is there anything specific I should ask my potential doctor before allowing them to preform Lasik on me? Is the procedure mostly done by the computer/laser and just 'guided' by the doctor?

Have you tried using lubricant eye drops regularly? Difficult to say without an examination but would start with simple treatments first before rushing into anything else.
It is unlikely that a flashlight can change the results of the LASIK procedure or cause damage to the retina. However, if you are concerned about the exposure from the light, I would get a dilated eye exam so the doctor can examine your retina.
