Crown question. Can it made to be larger than the original tooth so that I can get more tooth mass?

Folks, I have a back molar, No. 1 that I will be replacing with with a crown. Can it made to be larger than the original tooth so that I can get more tooth mass? I was hoping to get it to be made to be about 15 to 20% larger than what is their now. Any downside to this thinking? Can someone tap me back so I make sure to see the response? thx tom edwards
