How Quickly Does miraDry Work?

Sweat glands are obliterated during MiraDry treatment for underarm excess sweating or hyperhidrosis. Most patients should experience almost instant relief though the best long-term results are seen with two treatments done 3 months apart.

It takes a 1-2 weeks after a Miradry session to notice that the sweating is reduced, but this is mostly because you have not noticed that you have already stopped sweating, and the area was tender in the days following your procedure. There is a 70-80% reduction with 1 session, and 80-95% reduction with a second treatment in my experience. I tend to treat my patients on high settings, and the majority do not require a second session. Those who had severe sweating at baseline usually require 2 sessions.

miraDry is a clinically proven and safe FDA-approved solution for significantly reducing underarm sweat. The results are see within days following the outpatient procedure performed in a physician’s office. It is not surgery so doesn’t involve surgical incisions. miraDry delivers controlled electromagnetic energy to the arm pit, eliminating the underarm sweat (eccrine) glands. It does not penetrate enough to cause significant fat reduction and if anything might tighten, not loosen skin.Two procedures are typically recommended. MiraDry decreases sweat production instantly by about 82% in studies.  Patients are usually completely "bone dry" for the first few weeks after treatment.  Then they will notice the sensation of a trickle of sweat again and this is their new baseline level.  For the few patients who desire more dryness after their first treatment, they can undergo a second MiraDry treatment about 3 months after the first treatment.
