Hi! I am a 21-year-old female and I just have a few inquiries regarding premolar extraction. I would really appreciate some clarification to ease my worries. I was diagnosed with a blocked-out lateral incisor. Back in 2020 or 2021, my third molars were extracted because I was told this would help create more space. In 2022, I was given an appliance (an expander), and I regularly visited the clinic to have it checked and resized when necessary. To be honest, I wasn’t very consistent in wearing my expander as prescribed. I admit that I was hard-headed at times and sometimes didn’t use it properly. Now, in 2025, my dentist has recommended premolar extraction instead, emphasizing that it is important for me to have six properly aligned front teeth. She also explained that premolar extraction was actually the first and standard technique in cases like mine. At this point, I am just a little anxious about how things will turn out. I would like to be assured that this treatment approach will be successful and help me achieve a healthy, beautiful smile.
