Profound RF: What are the risks and side effects of this machine? How long does it last?

Profound RF is a safe and effective non-surgical treatment for tightening and lifting the skin of the face and neck, including the jawline and wrinkles.  The swelling is maximum about 48 hours after the treatment and resolves by 5 to 7 days.  You may apply concealer make-up by day 4 or 5 to hide bruising.  It is the bruising that takes from 7 to 14 days to resolve.  The treatment of the skin does  not remove fat.  In patients who do have excessive fat under the chin or in the neck, a separate handpiece is used that penetrates 6mm to purposely reduce fat cells.  I have not seen any patients appear older and gaunt after the treatment, only younger and tighter!!!  Profound RF stimulates the production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid all of which add volume to the face.  It has been used since 2014 and there have not been any reports of more sagging or laxity "down the road", just natural continued aging.  Patients will always look better than they would have had they not had Profound RF.  Fortunately, the risks and side effects are minimal for the degree of improvement.  The most common side effects are bruising (7-10 days), swelling (5-7 days), and dermal papules (days to a few weeks).  The complications of burns and scars are extremely rare, I have not seen any in my patients. As with any aesthetic procedure, you must choose your treating cosmetic physician carefully based on their experience, skill, knowledge, and most importantly their natural artistic vision.  Good luck and be well!!!Dr. P

To answer your question about the melting facial fat, the answer is 99% not. 
This technology works specifically within the skin. I have worked closely with the company for years and will be a presenter at our national Aesthetic Society meeting. In addition, I know the developer of the technology quite well. I can, therefore, attest to the rigorous scientific testing as well as the accuracy of the machine's RF induced heating.
A well designed clinical study indicates roughly a five year longevity. Hope this helps.
