Question

Fell on my front tooth two months ago and it cracked but did not break. Hurt on and off and was sensitive to cold so it was root canaled by an endo. Dentist recommends a post but I have been reading dental research that posts can actually fracture teeth as compared to teeth without them. Tooth has already been readied for a post so it's got a bigger empty canal than if I had just had a root canal. Just worried that since the tooth is already fractured the post may lead to worse outcomes

If there is adequate tooth structure remaining, then the dentist can fill in the post prep with a bonded core material and go ahead with the crown WITHOUT doing a post.

Hard to say if it is necessary without exam and xray, and even amongst dentists there is much debate about them.  It is your tooth and your decision, so if you don't want one you can ask for the space to be filled with a core material and a crown placed.  It may still fracture, but at least you are aware of the risks and chose to take them.
