I had cystic acne mainly on my forehead for a while. I was prescribed 50mg Doxycycline and did not see an improvement. My dose was bumped up to 100mg, after a year my cystic acne is gone. Only one in the last 4 months. They want to take me off doxy bc not a good long term solution. My derm prescribed Spirolactone. I am nervous to take it as my acne does not seem hormonal and my skin is pretty great now, don’t want to mess it up but also don’t want to stay on 100mg of doxy. what should I do?

Don't worry, nothing is wrong with you!! The first thing they teach us in pharmacology class in med school is "any medication is capable of causing any side effect" You are just sensitive to it.
Spironolactone is actually a diuretic that happens to be very effective...
Yes. Spironolactone can cause irregular bleeding so it is possible that that is what is going on. However, It is a good idea to go see your doctor and make sure nothing else is wrong to be safe and to make sure that you are not pregnant as well.
Thanks for your question. There is really no way to guarantee your outcome after stopping spironolactone. Many people do just great with topicals only, and some need to take the spironolactone for a very long period of time. If you are not planning on pregnancy any time soon...
