Can I have a nipple piercing while getting a breast augmentation?

A plastic stud will not interfere with the electrical cautery during surgery and can be left.  The biggest concern is leaving something that can trap bacteria and increase the probability of an infection.  If you have had the piercing for a while, I recommend that my patients remove the stud prior to surgery but have it with you.  After surgery the stud can be easily replaced while you are still under anesthesia.  William L. All piercings should be removed pre-operatively. Metal piercings will conduct electricity and thus are a burn risk. Plastic will not conduct a current and can be left, however, the presence of a foreign body in the surgical field will increase the risk of infection.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

You should be able to keep a plastic stud in place during your augmentation as it should not interfere with the cautery.
