Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph mts808. I understand your concern. Fillers are used to restore lost volume in and enhance the appearance of the face. The temporal region is located on the upper side of the face just above an imaginary line going from the corners of the eyes to the ears. At birth there is a fat pad in this area but it is lost slowly over time; this is called temporal hollowing. Some conditions such as HIV lead to an acceleration of the loss of this area. Fortunately fillers such as Voluma can be placed in this area to restore lost volume. This will provide a smoother appearance of the upper outer face and decrease the appearance of bony protrusions of the cheek bones.Other products such as Radiesse and Sculptra can be placed in this area. But hyaluronic acid fillers such as Voluma and Restylane Lyft (previously called Perlane) have the advantage of having a high safety profile as they can be dissolved in the event of an adverse effect. The most common adverse effects associated with injections in this area include redness, swelling, bruising, and tenderness. Very rare, but serious complications include vascular occlusion, which occurs when the product is inadvertently placed into a blood vessel, leading to loss of blood supply in the region. Consequences include temporary discoloration, scarring, and irreversible blindness. Such rare complications are much more easily managed when the product used can be dissolved. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
