Is it okay to use other brand's sunscreen when I am using the full system of Obagi Nu Derm with hydroquinone?

Yes you can use another brand, but be sure to choose a medical grade sunscreen that provides full spectrum protection. Your skin will be especially sensitive when using Nu Derm so a high quality sunscreen is essential.

Yes, this should be fine. I recommend using a full-spectrum sunscreen.  I suggest seeing a cosmetic dermatologist to get you on a long term plan with lasers, microneedling/prp, peels and skin care.  Best, Dr. Emer.

You can absolutely switch to another sunscreen if the sunscreen in the Nu-Derm system isn't an ideal formulation for you. The important thing is that you keep protecting your skin everyday with a sunscreen formulation that you like putting on your skin. I tell my patients to look for the following things when choosing a sunscreen: an SPF of at least 30, broad-spectrum, and contains a physical sunscreen like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Chemical sunscreens can tend to be irritating, particularly when you are utilizing prescription products like topical retinoids and hydroquinones, so this is why I recommend that my patients avoid these products while on the Nu-Derm system. There are so many different formulations on the market for sunscreen now, that I am confident you can find something that will work for your skin!
