Nipple sensitivity decreased after getting them pierced. Will the sensitivity ever come back?

I know this isn't the typical plastic surgery question but I got my nipple pierced about a month ago. My nipples have always been sensitive and my nipples were super sensitive only about 2 days after getting them pierced, and then the sensitivity completely vanished. I took out my piercing with the hope that the sensitivity would come back, but it hasn't. Will my sensitivity ever return? If so, how long will it take? What's the probability that it will return?
