Followup from first question. Why am I only shedding short hairs?

https://www.realself.com/quest... To clarify on my initial question- almost none of those 99% of shedded hairs reach 2 inches. Almost all are about between .5 - 1 inch long. I would expect that shedded hairs would be a mixture of both long and short hairs with MPB but I have only been shedding very short hairs.

This needs a examination by a hair expert. History as well as magnification examination and possibly biopsy will be performed. One must rule out male pattern hair loss,  anagen and telogen effluvium and hair breakage. Good luck.

It sounds as if you have many hairs going through miniaturization which may be the ones that are shedding.  Definitely a consultation would be in order to evaluate hair quality, thickness and density.  Seek the advice of a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist who does hair restoration to determine the problem and to see if this is a medical problem that may require different treatment.  Good luck, Dr. Schuster in Boca Raton Florida

Dear BI526,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I suggest that you start Finasteride and Minoxidil, as they are the only two medications for hair loss approved by the FDA. For women of child-bearing age, I use spironolactone instead of finasteride. Both medications have different mechanism of action, and I usually recommend both medications to my patients. Other adjuncts include low-level laser light therapy, PRP, stem cell, or other regenerative medical treatment. Also, you will want to ensure that you are not taking any medications that could be contributing to your hair loss. The main objectives with the combination treatments are to stabilize your hair loss, increase your existing hair fiber diameter, and stimulate some hair regrowth. After those options are completed, I recommend hair transplant, including FUE or FUT. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. You would have to be examined by me or another doctor with a hand microscope to see if there is extensive miniaturization. A pull test may also be indicated in the hands of an expert doctor
