For a hypopigmented scar, combining microneedling with topical bimatoprost (Latisse) may stimulate repigmentation, but there is no reliable way to predict exactly how long the pigment will last. The available evidence is limited to small studies and case reports. Some patients have maintained improvement for many months after treatment, but the durability can vary depending on the depth and cause of the scar and whether the melanocytes were preserved. In one reported case, repigmentation remained improved four months after completing treatment, while another case showed sustained improvement 10 months after the initial treatment. I would therefore consider the result potentially long-lasting but not guaranteed to be permanent. Also, Latisse is FDA-approved for eyelash hypotrichosis, not for treating hypopigmented scars, so its use for scar repigmentation is considered off-label.
