If you’re planning CO₂ laser treatment before a future FUE hair transplant, the key point most hair surgeons and dermatologists emphasize is timing rather than specific distance from the graft sites. CO₂ lasers create heat and controlled injury to the skin, and that can affect the delicate environment where future grafts are placed if done too close in time to the transplant. The skin needs to be fully healed and free of active thermal injury before graft implantation.
In practical terms:
Most specialists recommend waiting at least 6 to 12 months after hair transplant surgery before doing a CO₂ resurfacing anywhere near the treated areas so that the grafts have fully established and the scalp has healed.
If you’re considering doing CO₂ before a transplant, it’s usually advised to have any laser work completed well in advance (often several months) of your FUE so that the skin has time to recover completely and there’s no residual thermal inflammation or scar tissue that could interfere with graft uptake.
There isn’t a precise millimeter or centimeter rule about how close to the future graft sites you can laser; rather, it’s about giving enough healing time and ensuring the skin is calm and intact before transplant. Too‑early laser in the recipient area can cause delayed healing or affect graft survival because the tissue response from the CO₂ laser hasn’t fully resolved.
