Most breast reductions are closed in layers with dozens of sutures in each breast. The number is irrelevant however except to appease the curiosity of your mother.

There are a lot of stitches under the skin that will dissolve and different surgeons use different techniques for skin closure, so the total number will vary.  Surgeons usually don't count the number during surgery.

Contrary to popular belief, surgeons don't count the number of stitches used for any operation. A breast reduction will have multiple layers of absorbable stitches. Usually close to 100 if I were to estimate.
