Risks with eye Thermage CPT?

Are there any risks to the eyes when doing Thermage CPT to the orbital area? I understand shields and drops are placed on the eye, this seems really scary. Are there likely risks?

Themage and eye injury with shields.

The eye shields are to protect your eyes from injury, however they have to be placed with care, or corneal scratches can occur.

Post operatively you will need protective sunglasses for a few hours. This procedure is straight forward for specialist who perform this procedure a few times a day.

Risks of Thermage in the orbital area

Thermage is one of many radiofrequency based energy treatments used to tighten skin.  Only a few have devices specific for the eye area, and all should use shields if they are treating the lids because otherwise the heat they generate can damage the cornea.  The shields should be plastic to insulate against the heat, not metal and should be inserted by someone very skilled and inserting devices in the eye.

Thermage CPT eyes

The one main risk for Thermage for the eyes is proper shield placement and selection so that the corneas do not get scratched.  Please consult an expert.  Best, Dr. Green
