Fat grafting fading after one month? How does fat grafting really work?

Question

I got fat taken from my lower belly and got them injected into my chin . It looked really nice but after one month it's seems like it's almost back to normal . My dr said this is a gradual thing and it last minimum 1 year. So far it's only 1 month and basically looks like my old chin again . My dr said if I get it done every 4-6 months 3 times it should be permanent and more define each time . Don't know if this is true or not.

It's too soon to tell what your final results will be. It can take 3-6 months for final results. Fat transfer results are permanent. I recommend prp and sculptra to help improve final results. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Some of the fat will always go away, but it would be unusual for it all to go away in a month.  We try to over-correct a little because of this, but too much over-correction is not good for fat survival.  In some patients the fat will last for many years and in others seems to resorb more quickly.  You may need another fat injection after a few months.

Not all of the fat will take so when I do fat grafting I tend to overcorrect so when it comes down there will be a better correction.I tell patients a second injection will or may need to be done.Part of aging on our faces is that we lose soft tissue ie fat.This will continue even after fat grfating.

Fat grating to face/chin has limitations. The longevity of transplanted fat has multiple factors which effect the outcomes. Your metabolism, the amounts injected, the injection techniques all play a role in the final results. I have recently learned the Y Lift chin filler techniques offer much better non surgical results vs fat grafting especially to the chin & face. At least in my experience using a longer lasting HA filler, like Voluma or Vollure injected onto the bone gives better and longer lasting results. Fee in the $3,000 ranges...
