I have severe bone loss and have had 2 grafts that did not take. I have no lower back teeth but several in front. Can the teeth be ground down and roots be used as implants? Thank-you.
Answer: Overdentures utilizing natural teeth. Healthy roots are excellent for Snap-in dentures and in many ways are far superior to implants because you maintain your natural proprioception. There are many available snaps that can be attached to healthy roots.I have had natural teeth support snap-in dentures last for decades but often use it to make a comfortable transitional denture during complex treatment. The teeth are very easy to care for when they are cut off at gum level.

Answer: Can you do an overdenture over the roots of your natural teeth? Existing teeth can be shaped to be utilized for tooth supported overdentures provided the teeth are in satisfactory health and are stable and have adequate anatomy.

Answer: Can an overdenture be done over natural teeth Is it possible??... it sure is .. Is it the best way to go??.. most likely not for the long term.. Here are the potential future issues with the option you have mentioned. 1. the teeth might most likely need to be root canaled and that means a weaker tooth 2. as long as there is organic matter in the mouth (teeth) those teeth can get cavities and once those roots get cavities on them you are back to square one and will need to remove the roots and look into the best, but obviously more expensive option which is an implant supported overdenture. I hope that helps. Best of luck with the treatment.
