I really want to have breast Implants, but my mammogram results that I have calcium deposits in my right breast, and Bi Rads 2. I just want to know should I have breast implants now? And does this lead to many risks and complication later on?
Answer: Calcium Deposits in Breast and Breast Implants Calcifications in the breast can be benign, but the bottom line is that breast implants are going to add to the amount of work needing to be done to image your breasts using mammography. That being said, extra views on mammogram and other techniques can also be used to check your breasts in the future if you proceed with augmentation. The real question here is your overall risk profile for developing breast cancer. Your age, family history, hormonal status, breast density, and the presence of other findings on mammogram are all important in determining whether augmentation is right for you.Your primary acre doctor and your PS need to present you with a clear picture of this before you proceed.

Answer: Mammogram Before and After Breast Augmentation. Mammograms are an effective screening tool for breast cancer. An initial breast screening mammogram is recommended at the age of 35, but may be indicated before that if there is a strong family history of breast cancer. Other breast diagnostic tools include ultrasound and MRI. Breast implants placed behind the muscle have minimal effect on screening mammograms and their ability to detect abnormalities in the breast tissue. Breast implants have actually been found to help the detection of masses with self-exam.Calcifications or other findings on a screening mammogram should be stratified by risk of propensity to develop any further issues. Benign calcifications can be followed with yearly mammograms and comparison studies to delineate any change. The risk of calcifications can be stratified by a radiologist or breast surgeon. Breast implants placed behind the muscle in breasts that have pre-existing benign calcifications can be followed with mammograms after the surgery. Often a radiologist may recommend a 6 month mammogram to see any change prior to any breast surgery.

Answer: Calcifications Calcification are common findings on mammograms. Birads 2 indicates that the calcifications appear benign, or in other words show a low risk of being breast cancer. I would discuss this with your primary care physician and the plastic surgeon you choose.Implants placed under the muscle would be the safest approach for a woman that needs mammograms. Your situation should not prevent you from receiving breast implants.
