I have had what look like bruises running the length of both my shins. I was told it is "hydroxychloroquine induced pigmentation", from RA medication. I stopped it over a year ago but I was told they are permanent. I found one article a while ago discussing a trial using the Q switched laser to attempt to remove this pigmentation, but no other info since that. Any information on using either the Q switched laser or maybe the newer Picosure/Picoway lasers for this? Thank you!

Thank you for your picture and question. Any time an odor occurs after a laser procedure we suggest having a follow up appointment with the provider that treated you. Just a precaution to make sure no infection is setting up and that you are healing properly.
Thanks for your question and photos. It is possible to fade or even remove the tattoo with patience and the right laser. Good job doing your research and here are my tips for successful tattoo removal. Good luck.Tattoo removal, if not done correctly, can result in either scarring or ghosting....
Unfortunately controlled or intentional lightening of a tattoo is not possible with a laser. Removal is patchy and not pretty. Your best hope is to let it mellow over time.
Thank you for the excellent question!
