I have minor crowding in my upper and lower teeth. My dentist recommended Invisalign. However, I would really like to get rid of the buccal corridors on either side of my smile. It seems as though there is conflicting views on Invisalign. Some say it won't widen a smile, others say it will but only a little bit. Do you believe Invisalign would help to widen my smile and eliminate my buccal corridors (or at least minimize them)?

Answer: Can Invisalign minimize my Buccaneers corridor and widen my smile? Invisalign can expand your arch and move your bicuspids out buccally. Both upper and lower arches would need to be moved simultaneously to keep your bite in alignment. Before committing to treatment it would be best to have records taking and have your drntist submit your treatment plan request to Invisalign. You can review it with your dentist and see if the proposed changes will accomplish what you want, and how long it will take. If you are satisfied, then you can proceed with Invisalign. Your other option would be to have the veneers placed on your bicuspids to build them out buccally. You could have these placed with composite resin as a trial veneer to see how it would affect your smile. My recommendation based on what you have stated would be to move forward with Invisalign to Straighten your teeth. If you do not get the widening that you want, you could still have Veneers placed on your bicuspids to widen your smile if that did not get accomplished with Invisalign.

Answer: Invisalign and buccal corridors Dear MakMan90, Invisalign will not do much to widen your smile and decrease the corridors. I am guessing that you would like to move the cuspids backward. Invisalign will not do that. Your dentist can do a scan/impression and generate a virtual movie showing how your teeth would be projected to move should you decide to accept treatment. Dr. Neal
