I have minor crowding in my upper and lower teeth. My dentist recommended Invisalign. However, I would really like to get rid of the buccal corridors on either side of my smile. It seems as though there is conflicting views on Invisalign. Some say it won't widen a smile, others say it will but only a little bit. Do you believe Invisalign would help to widen my smile and eliminate my buccal corridors (or at least minimize them)?
Answer: Wider smile You can get some expansion in your case to slightly widen your smile. The obvious benefit will be rotating your upper left lateral incisor to achieve a better balanced smile in the anterior. I would advise your dentist does a diagnostic work up for you to show you the Invisalign simulation. This way you can see for yourself just how much expansion is possible.

Answer: Invisalign Hi, thanks for sending you question. The invisalign system is able to gain expansion based on the movements programmed. With that said all orthodontics, braces or clear aligners can only move the teeth based on the doctor's objective. If the objective is to widen the arch, then that would have to be programmed in the movement to gain the desired effect. Visit with a highly experienced invisalign provider in your area for the details, or if you are close to our offices feel free to come in. All the best.

Answer: Invisalign and buccal corridors Invisalign can be used to expand the upper teeth outward. Every case is different in terms of how much expansion is possible. The amount of bone available, the need as it relates to the opposite arch, and the amount of space needed to relieve the crowding. Getting a clin-check made will give you a visual of what is possible with invisalign. A clin-check is a virtual animation of the movements needed to achieve the desired result prior to starting treatment. This will let you know how much expansion is possible in your case and give you a better idea. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Answer: Can Invisalign minimize my Buccaneers corridor and widen my smile? Invisalign can expand your arch and move your bicuspids out buccally. Both upper and lower arches would need to be moved simultaneously to keep your bite in alignment. Before committing to treatment it would be best to have records taking and have your drntist submit your treatment plan request to Invisalign. You can review it with your dentist and see if the proposed changes will accomplish what you want, and how long it will take. If you are satisfied, then you can proceed with Invisalign. Your other option would be to have the veneers placed on your bicuspids to build them out buccally. You could have these placed with composite resin as a trial veneer to see how it would affect your smile. My recommendation based on what you have stated would be to move forward with Invisalign to Straighten your teeth. If you do not get the widening that you want, you could still have Veneers placed on your bicuspids to widen your smile if that did not get accomplished with Invisalign.

Answer: Invisalign and buccal corridors Dear MakMan90, Invisalign will not do much to widen your smile and decrease the corridors. I am guessing that you would like to move the cuspids backward. Invisalign will not do that. Your dentist can do a scan/impression and generate a virtual movie showing how your teeth would be projected to move should you decide to accept treatment. Dr. Neal
