I read that Retin-A may cause birth defects and it's not recommended to use for those who plan pregnancy, is that true?

I came across on a research article in internet that Retin A may cause birth defects and is not recommended for women who plan to get pregnant. Is that true and should I stop using Retin A since I'm planning a baby. Thank you

I would not recommend using Retin A during pregnancy.  It is simply not worth the risk to the baby.  There are many great skin care options for you to use during that time.  I would recommend ZO or Epionce products.

Thank you for your question.Any retinoid medications (Retin-A, Differin, tretinoin, etc.) is not recommended during pregnancy, and in my experience, any patient actively trying to get pregnant should not use any topical retinoids. There are other topical prescriptions that are safe during pregnancy and even breastfeeding. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist to have your skin evaluated and to discuss safe treatment options during pregnancy. Take care and good luck!
