Should I take collagen supplements along with derma rolling?

I'm planning on buying a dermaroller (1.5mm) to use on my stretch marks. I will be putting either bio oil or vitamin e on after. Would it be a good idea to take supplements that will boost the production of collagen while using my dermaroller? Or is it a waste of money? that is the one I was planning on getting, would a pill be better than powder? Would any other supplement be better?

Thanks for your question.  There is no evidence that oral collagen supplements have any effect on collagen production.  As with most supplements, it just produces expensive urine.We never recommend dermarollers because it causes unnecessary dermal trauma.  Microneedling, especially with PRP is better because the needles travel perpendicularly to the skin surface.  If you think about the rollers, they go in at an angle, straighten up and come out in the opposite direction.  You end up with long slits instead of tiny pinpoints.  It is illegal to sell medical devices to the public.  These home use devices are dumbed down to not be medical grade (or effective).  Best of luck

I agree with other Specialists regarding LONG needle derma rollers- they can cause trauma, hence why we recommend .25 to .5 max. Collagen supplements will do no harm, but no scientific evidence they will help. Stay SAFE, Dr Davin Lim. Brisbane. Australia.
