Would braces/elastics fix my recessed chin or would I need surgery? (photos)

Question

My chin looks fine when I smile and don't close my lips and I'm happy with it. However when I close my lips it looks very recessed and bad. I also have overbite/overjet and recently got braces for it and soon will get elastics, but I'm not sure it will solve the problem. Do you think the issue is bone, or protrusive lower teeth/overbite? Will braces make my chin look like it does when I smile, when my mouth is closed, or would I need some type of surgery/augmentation. Thanks

Your pictures do not show a recessed chin.  Hard to make a diagnosis from photos with out seeing your natural bite.Your provider is the best person to answer your questions.  Ask for some additional time at your next appointment.  Write down your questions.  Be specific.  Tell him or her what you see and what you would like corrected.Your provider actually works FOR you, not just ON you.  It is your right to know exactly what the provider is trying to correct and make sure that is what you want.  Good luck.
