Will botox in the jaw give a more heart shaped face, and restore the youthful triangular contrast between the cheek bones and jawline? I do not want filler, and I am afraid botox to the jaw would only cause a more oval shaped face and maybe even jowling. Thanks

Answer: Botox Slimming the face for a more inverted triangle shape can be done multiple ways depending on the current shape and anatomy of your face. For your cheeks, conservative buccal fat pad removal can bring in your cheeks for more contour and cheekbone definition. Some patients have "boxy" faces due to large jaw muscles when they clench their teeth. These muscles can be thinned with Botox injections. Injecting botox along the jawline also sharpens the jaw by relaxing the platysma muscle layer over the angle of the jaw so the sharpness is more noticeable. Botox will not cause jowling. Other options including building your cheek bones with filler to make your face more heart or oval shaped. Hope this helps! Johnson C. Lee, MD Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Masseter Injections Patient's with masseter muscle hypertrophy (enlargement of the muscle the moves your lower jaw when you chew) can benefit ascetically from botox injections to thin that muscle. This will theoretically give a patient a more heart shaped face, as it will narrow your lower face. You mentioned that you do not want fillers, however, filling the upper face/cheek can also help. I don't think you will achieve the results you are looking for with botox to the masseter as that area on you is not too prominent. You should see a PS that can evaluate you in person and give you multiple options.
