I generally don't recommend ice for breast patients as the implant is so far from the skin surface it does little good nor is it helpful after the point of maximum swelling, after the first 3 days.Discuss this with your surgeon and follow his directions!#iceaftersurgery#breastaugmentation#BA
Hi. Ice is helpful during the first 48 hours after surgery. Use the 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off rule. Don't apply the ice directly to the skin - use a clean facecloth between the ice and your skin.
It is best to ask your plastic surgeon any of your post op questions, using ice packs is usually fine after a breast augmentation but you should make sure you are following your surgeons post op protocol.
Yes, but be careful they are not too cold and that you don't leave them on for too long.Follow the care recommendations by your plastic surgeon and congrats on your surgery, the swelling should generally improve day by day.I hope this was helpful,Dr. Daniel BarrettBeverly Hills, CA
icepack will not cause any damage unless your skin is numb after surgery and you don't realize that the icepacks are too cold, leading to frostbite. So be careful and consider 10 min on, 10 min off whenever using icepacks
While you can use ice packs on the sides and tops of your swollen breasts after breast augmentation, care should be taken so that you're not putting ice directly on the skin, and it is also best to work with your Plastic Surgeon that will have a plan that works for him/her.Over the past several years I have refined my" 24-hour breast augmentation recovery plan" which involves significant modifications during the breast augmentation procedure, as well as a very coordinated pre-and postoperative set of plans/instructions.We do not see the traditional swelling, significantly elevated breast implants, pain issues of the past and the recovery is simply remarkable. We, therefore, do not recommend or see the need for ice packs after breast augmentation.
Before using ice packs after a breast augmentation it is wise to discuss this idea with your surgeon who knows what’s best for you. This is helpful after the first 24 - 48 hours of surgery as it will reduce swelling and pains, but do not apply it for too long and should not place ice directly on your skin as it may cause frostbite. Goodluck!!
Ice packs or frozen peas or blueberries are very comforting and reduce swelling after your breast augmentation. Make sure you have sensation and can feel the cold. Make sure you have your doctors permission. Also consider low carb and low salt diet and ibuprofen.
Ice packs wrapped in a towel or cold compresses can be quite helpful for the first few days. I suggest using them for my patients. Be sure not to freeze your tissue. I would suggest asking your surgeon what he/she recommends.
These can offer relief, and decrease swelling. However, if your breast skin is numb it can cause frostbite and resultant scarring. This question is better asked of your own surgeon. All the best.
I actually give all of my breast augmentation patients Celebrex before surgery and afterwords. Studies have shown much better pain control and less need for narcotic pain pills. But you should ask your surgeon and go with whatever protocol he has found to work good for him.Gary Hall,MD
When implants are first inserted, they sit high up because your tissues are tight and gravity hasn't taken effect. Over time, natural tissue expansion occurs to allow the implants to fall into place. By this time, your breasts will have taken on a more natural contour, where the lower breasts...
Yes spitting stitches can be painful. However it is very important that she see her plastic surgeon as soon as possible to make certain that the suture material is removed and that there is no surrounding infection. Ask your plastic surgeon if Epsom salts soaks would be helpful.
