Can smile direct club “file” down some chips in my front teeth? (Photo)

Question

I had braces for 5 years and I’m waiting for my smile direct appointment. I have some small chips in my front teeth from grinding and my eye teeth need the bottoms smoothed out as well. I’m choosing to go to a smile direct location but can they “file” them to make them “straight” on the bottom?

I don't believe that SDC has anyone that could legally remove enamel in their locations. My suggestion is to contact your local general dentist and ask them about it. It shouldn't a huge deal and a simple fix they'll be able to address for you!

Smile direct club are great at Deliverooing aligners to customers; unfortunately they do not treat patients. So I doubt if the SDC box will include a dentist in there to smooth down chipped teeth; you would need to see a real dentist for that.

Only a licensed dentist can irreversibly alter tooth structure.  The entire reason Smile Direct Club exists is to cut out the "middle man" between patient and manufacturer, the dentist (orthodontist).  NOT using a dental professional to do your treatment comes with compromises in treatment, and this is one of them.
