How would you rotate a canine 180 degrees?

I am currently wearing metal braces. I had an impacted canine which has now moved into place where a bracket has put on, however, after a short while, I have realised my canine is actually back to front and is actually bothering me quite a bit. How long would it take to be rotated all the way round and how would this be done?

Yes, it is possible to rotate a canine 180 degrees. However, it will take a significant amount of time. The process would involve bonding brackets or "buttons" to the front and/or back of the tooth. Elastics would be tied to these attachments to help rotate the tooth. Periodically these brackets or buttons would have to be removed and replaced as the tooth rotated.

Turning a canine 180 degrees and aligning it with the rest of the teeth would take between 6-12 months, depending on other factors. To facilitate turning the tooth, brackets/buttons/attachments are bonded to both the outer and inner surfaces of the tooth.
