I had Lasik surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago. I have now got floaters in my right eye. I did not have them before the surgery.

Question

I noticed bright flashes of light 5 days ago and a couple of days ago noticed that I have a blurred spot in my right eye. Should I be concerned? I went for a check up last Saturday and was told everything was fine and they couldn't do anything about the floaters. Even though I didn't have them before the surgery, they said it was age related. I am 56.

The average time to heal after Laser Vision correction is 3 months. Coming to any conclusion before it won't be a good idea. During Laser Vision Correction the suction pressure might be high that causes changes in the vitreous gel. Kindly get your retina evaluated. Use prescribed lubricating drops on time.

With a new onset of floaters, flashing lights, and especially a blind spot I would recommend that you see an Ophthalmologist immediately to have your retina evaluated. These can be signs of a retinal detachment. This can occur with any eye surgery but is very uncommonly due to the lasik surgery itself although individuals seeking lasik often have myopia which puts them at higher risk of retinal detachment even without surgery.
