Hello I was wondering if you could help me I am 29 years old I have a BMI of 45 I am 5 foot six 265 pounds The biggest I ever was on my life and I want to know with my Medicaid cover this surgery ? I don't have any comorbidities I have a pituitary gland that I am on a medication for six years I am getting very depressed about my weight thank you

This means that from a medical standpoint, you do meet the standard criteria.
When it comes to Medicaid, coverage policies vary by state, but in many cases a BMI of 40 or above is enough to be approved for surgery. The process often requires documentation of previous weight-loss attempts, a psychological evaluation, nutritional counseling, and sometimes a supervised weight-loss program before approval. Since you have already been managing a pituitary condition with medication, your bariatric team will also want to coordinate with your endocrinologist to ensure your care is safe and well integrated.

Generally patients loose about 70% of the amount they weigh over their ideal body weight. To qualify for weight loss surgery, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommends you meet one of the following:1- BMI ≥ 40, or more than 100 pounds overweight.2- BMI ≥35 and at least one or more obesity-related co-morbidities such as type II diabetes (T2DM), hypertension, sleep apnea and other respiratory disorders, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, lipid abnormalities, gastrointestinal disorders, or heart disease.3- Inability to achieve a healthy weight loss sustained for a period of time with prior weight loss efforts.But first you need to have a consultation with a bariatric surgeon this will allow you to discuss about the procedure in details. Many factor should be considered when deciding for a bariatric surgery, is needed to check your current health status with lab work and in a consultation you can accomplish this.

You meet the standard criteria for weight loss surgery and should check with a local bariatric (weight loss ) surgeon.  To be eligible you do not need co-morbidities if your BMI is over 40
