What can a dentist or oral surgeon do for my chipped tooth that had a root canal? (Photo)

Hello! I had a root canal on my tooth to the left of my K9 on my left side over 5 years ago. Yesterday while eating half of my tooth chipped away. The tooth is a part of my smile and very important to me. Please let me know my options and a general price range with dental insurance. Thanks!

Root canal teeth are brittle.They tend to fracture over time if they have not been covered with a crown.  At this point, it looks like you need a post in the tooth, a build up around the post, and a porcelain crown to restore this tooth to smile status. The cost should be a little more than you spent on the root canal several years ago . Well worth your investment,  and insurance should help with all of that.  Your teeth may have yellowed over the last several years, so you may want to consider whitening before the crown color is selected.  If you decide to whiten after the crown is made, the porcelain will not get whiter with the whitening procedure. The teeth will, but not the crown. So, if you're thinking about lightning your teeth, now is the time !

Any tooth with a root canal becomes brittle and can fracture much easier than one that has not had it nerve and vascular system removed and that is what root canaled tooth is .The front teeth are often not crowned since they are not chewing teeth like molars and it can be restore with post and crown and e max crown.Good luck with your treatment, i hope you solve your problem.
