Can male laser hair removal result in thinning that looks natural? Not total clearance.

You sound like an excellent candidate for laser hair removal.  The concern is that partial hair removal will be patchy and not natural appearing.  However, "thinning" can be achieved.  You need an experienced provider who understands you end goal.  
Treatments are normally spaced about every 6-8 weeks.  Realize it can take months to determine the final growth pattern.   I would recommend 3 treatments and then wait 6 months to assess hair growth and decide if you want more treatments.

In your case I would agree that the Alex laser would be the best bet for your skin type.  At Monroe Comprehensive Laser Center in Monroe, Mi, we use the Gentlemax pro, known for comfort and efficacy.  Most people would require 6 or so monthly to every 6 weeks treatments to facilitate total hair removal.  Less treatments result in partial hair removal.  If would be achievable, but difficult to achieve a natural thinned hair appearance instead of ending up with patchy hair loss.  Be very clear on your goals with your chosen provider
