A characteristic of telogen effluvium is the shedding of miniaturized/intermediate hairs or hairs that did not get the chance to fatten up before being shed. When the telogen effluvium phase is over, can these miniaturized hairs fully develop back to terminal hairs?

You need a formal evaluation to see what type of hair loss you may have. when you have hairless its best to do a full hormonal workup for internal optimization plus scalp biopsies or scrapings to rule out any stress related, inflammatory, autoimmune or infectious causes of hair loss. No, telogen effluvium is not a condition associated with shedding of miniaturized and intermediate hairs that did not have a chance to fatten up. That is inaccurate. Telogen effluvium is the shedding of terminal hairs unless a person has another hair loss condition. In a classic telogen effluvium, larger fat terminal hairs are shed. In a patient with androgenetic alopecia, miniaturized and intermediate hairs and large terminal hairs are shed.

Telogen Effluvium is a phenomenon in which hair prematurely enters the resting phase, or Telogen phase, of the hair growth cycle. As a result, the affected area will appear to have less hair over time. When it does grow, the hair may become thinner and finer, thus exhibiting the characteristics of hair miniaturization
